Sunday Report
Sometimes one light shines
brightly above all other lights
- And tonight that light, in the
Bromsgrove and District
League, is AFC Ipsley who are
now the only league
representative left in the WFA
County Cup competitions, thanks
to their 2-1 away win
at Worcester Division 3 side
Upton Star, whilst the other 3
league representatives all
crashed out.
We'll start our round up with
Ipsley's hard fought win though.
James Mason had put Ipsley ahead
and then the team missed a load
of chances to put the game to
bed, as Upton Star equalised
with 5 minutes to go forcing
extra-time. Andy Squibb, also
the Ipsley club secretary, was
the hero as he scored the winner
deep into extra time to send
Ipsley through to the
Quarter-Finals. A big well done
to Matthew Wardle's team who are
also in their first season in
the League and doing us proud!
In other Minor Cup County games,
GLA Reserves suffered a narrow
defeat at home to Kidderminster
Division 3 side Arley, whilst
Millfields Boca Juniors ran
another Kidderminster Division 3
side, Darby End Athletic, even
closer narrowly bowing out 5-3
in extra time after the sides
were locked at 3-3 in normal
time, this after Boca had given
the visitors an 89th minute own
goal to equalise! Sam Wright's
brace and Adam Jones's goal were
ultimately in vain. Millfields
keeper Iain Bratt also deserves
a special mention for his string
of fine saves during the
contest. Churchfields United
also lost, perhaps unexpectedly,
against Evesham WMC by a 4-0
scoreline but were hampered by
two key players missing. Adam
Glover, the Churchfields United
legend, commented that his side
didn't want it as much as the
opposition and they can have no
complaints at the result.
In the Premier Cup Group Games,
La Coruna sealed their place in
the semis with an 11-0 biffing
of Bromsgrove Town who are
really struggling for any form
at the present time. Meanwhile,
KPR opened up their group
campaign with a 5-1 home win
over Golden Lion Athletic, tall
imposing centre back Mark Styler
grabbing a brace. Studley
United's 3-0 win at Meadow Park,
their third successive win
inside 6 weeks against MP,
leaves them well placed to grab
the best 'runner-up' position
and thus move into the semis.
Just one Premier Division game
to report on today and that saw
a convincing 6-0 win for the
Queens Head Dons over AFC Rubery.
Mark Mccleary, the AFC Rubery
secretary, was very
complimentary about the Dons
after the game, who are in
excellent nick at the moment and
move 5 points clear at the top
of the table. Powerful striker
Sean Chance helped himself to a
hat-trick today with James Dale
and Ben Allbutt also on target
(we do not have the other
scorer).
With Alvechurch Lions game
postponed at Belbroughton
Athletic due to a frozen pitch,
it was left to Crabmill
Monchengladbach to take
advantage by beating a slightly
under-strength West Heath United
3-1. Dan Hill and Duncan Tye
were on target, as was the
evergreen Stee Collet who was
also pleased to grab an assist!
Crabmill have now won 7 straight
games and are looking good for
promotion. Jason Gibbons got
Heath's consolation. 10 man
Sporting Grapevine's wretched
season continues as they lost
2-0 at home to Spa Athletic who
themselves had a bad time of
late, with Tom Parker's
dismissal doing the home side no
favours. Spa leapfrog Grapevine
in the table. With Grapevine
rumoured to be close to
signing another new striker, hot
on the heels of Henley's
targetman Adam O Hare joining,
things could well improve in the
weeks to come but they will need
too to avoid a possible
relegation battle. Rubery
Athletic had a comfortable 7-1
victory over Stoke Prior (they
stay 4th on goal
difference), whilst Frankley
move into the Top 5 after
winning 4-3 at Vernon Arms
United, the B45 based side's 4th
league win by a single goal
margin. Hewell Grangers beat
Black Cross Athletico 3-1, with
Black Cross captain Michael
Beatty lamenting his side for
making too many mistakes in the
game today.
The Division 2 title is Rubery
Social Allstars to lose as they
convincingly beat bottom side
Wyre Forest Panthers 7-0, whilst
nearest pursuers Redditch
Athletic surprisingly slipped to
a 4-2 home defeat against
Callowbrook Swifts. RSA took
some time to get going in their
clash with the Panthers but once
they had got a couple of goals
up, there was only going to be
one winner. Ryan Wood and Timmy
Houghton hit braces, with Les
Turner, Daniel Caveney and
Richard Heywood backing up their
big-hitters. Despite their
recent slump, AFC Riflemans
early season form has seen them
keep in touch with the top and
their 2-1 win over Galaxy
Athletic takes them up to 3rd.
In the bottom 3 clash, it was a
thrill a minute stuff at
Highgate United, as Laburnum and
Arrow Valley shared the spoils
in an 8 goal thriller. Andy
Taylor with a hat-trick for
Laburnum, who also saw
midfielder Aaron Williams score
a stunner which was hit from
somewhere near the halfway line!
Several big games in the league
next week, most notably a
Bridgwater Cup Quarter and a
Centenary Semi, but AFC Ipsley's
home game with Rubery Social
Allstars is sure to be
hard-fought and high scoring;
Even with RSA's tight defence,
Ipsley have decent strikers and
it could be an absolute cracker
not to be missed. The Stoat is
intending to be a watching
spectator for us. Meanwhile,
Crabmill Monchengladbach get to
test themselves against Redditch
Premier opposition, as they
travel to face Studley Sporting
in the Bromsgrove Charity
Cup. La Coruna also face
Wychbold RBL in the same
competition and that looks worth
watching as well. We'll be
sending a team of reporters,
well wrapped up and with flasks
of warm coffee to hand, to the
games next week so check back
for all the news on Sunday.

The Sunday Report
93 goals in the Bromsgrove and
District Football League today
as strikers at several clubs
went goal crazy, partially
thanks to very strong winds on
many pitches, but at least all
the games played and some
important league results came to
the fore!
We'll start our round up at
Studley 3G arena in the Premier
Division, where in-form Queens
Head Dons had the chance to go
top with Vic Barnt Green in
Premier Cup action. It was a
chance the Dons didn't waste as
they turned in a professional
performance to beat Bromsgrove
Town 2-0. Town actually started
the game well, taking it to the
Dons with Tony Woodward
particularly influential and
they were desperately
unlucky not to go into an early
lead when Brad Algar's header
struck the post with Diddy
Cummings in the Dons goal beaten
all ends up. Dons regained their
composure and started to assume
control with Craig Swallow
lively out wide and pint sized
Jack Connolly's neat touches up
top causing problems. Swallow
was eventually forced off
injured but Omar Salih, who was
outstanding from start to
finish, filled that void well
and was the instigator of many
of Dons' best moments. Sean
Chance gave the Dons the lead
midway through the half slotting
home a knock down after a fine
left wing cross. Danny Hall then
increased the scoreline when he
was left unmarked at the back
post and floated a lovely header
over the stranded Ian Cooke in
the home goal. The second half
was fairly comfortable for Dons
and they should really have
scored more, Sean Chance and
Ryan Brown missing absolute
sitters from yards out; Town
nearly pulled one back to set up
an interesting last 10 minutes
when great play in the box by
James Hylton bought out the best
in Cummings who tipped his shot
around the post. Hylton, the
stand in matchday
secretary, commented after the
match he was pleased with how
his side acquitted themselves
but felt they didn't put the
Dons backline under enough
pressure at crucial times. The
result leaves Town marooned in
the bottom two and possibly
heading for their first ever
relegation.
We also had another Premier
Division game as a 1230 k/o,
strictly one off, where Golden
Lion Athletic beat Studley
United 3-1 to boost their
chances of staying in the
division. James Rowley opened
the scoring for GLA from just
outside the box before Studley
captain Nick Baker scored a
wonder solo goal to equalise.
Simon Paramore and Marcus
Allbutt sealed the win in the
second half and GLA were
deserved winners today as
Studley by their own admittance,
had a bad day at the office.
Onto Division 1 and with
Alvechurch Lions in cup action,
Crabmill Monchengladbach took
full advantage to move within a
point of the Lions at the top by
beating Sporting Grapevine 3-0.
Twin striking duo, Dan Hill and
Sean Anslow, were on target
again and Crabmill keeper Jake
Doyle had to be at his best to
deny Grapevine getting a goal
back. Bren Bartlett added a
third around the 72 minute mark
to kill the game. Rubery Oak are
clinging onto the top two's
tails and today they went on a
goal fest and humiliated Stoke
Prior 12-0. The job was done by
the interval as Oak were an
astonishing 10 goals ahead and
were just too good for a Stoke
Prior side destined to drop back
into Division 2. Josh Fergusson
got 4, Nathan Brown 3, Josh
Moore and Adam Kerrigan (the
young lad with the veterans
body) a brace each and Josh
'Teal' Mosley the single strike.
Meanwhile the fourth and fifth
placed Athletics, Rubery and
Belbroughton, played out a 1-1
draw to share a point each with
Andy Court getting Rubery's
goal. Black Cross Athletico are
starting to motor now, they are
one win away from mid-table,
this time a close 3-2 win over
Vernon Arms United. However it
was lowly Vernon who took the
lead, when Stuart Day's flick on
was headed home by Dan Arnold
with only 2 minutes on the
clock. Defensive ditherings then
proved costly as Black Cross
went into a 3-1 interval lead.
Vernon were then camped inside
the home team's half in the
second period and Arnold grabbed
his second with 80 minutes gone
after Dan Kings played a raking
cross-field ball, but they
couldn't grab the leveller. West
Heath United also picked up 3
points today, having lost 6 in
midweek when Henley United
resigned and had their results
expunged (West Heath the team
who lost out the most), winning
at Spa Athletic by a 3-0
scoreline. Jason Gibbons hit
another brace, one a magnificent
solo effort, with an Own Goal by
Spa Athletic making up the
numbers.
Into Division 2 and we had a
rare event today; A 0-0
scoreline, especially a Division
2 '0-0' where most goals tend to
be scored! Boca Juniors and
league leaders Social Allstars
played out the 0-0 in front of
2,500 at Charford International
Stadium. Boca played counter
attacking football giving
Allstars some hairy moments, but
in return, Allstars were denied
by the Boca keeper and the
woodwork. A draw was a fair
result. Redditch Athletic's 3-0
away win at Afc Riflemans, who
have completely blown up, leaves
them 7 points behind Allstars
but with 3 games in hand.
Richard Tyler's hat-trick, we've
lost count how many he has
scored this season, doing the
business. Laburnum are another
team on the up and on a roll as
they beat inconsistent Santiago
RV 3-0, thanks to Andy Taylor's
brace, returning to haunt his
old club and Ashley Stirling. In
Santiago's defence it didn't
appear to be their day as they
struck the woodwork 5 times. The
turnaround at Churchfields
United in recent times has been
nothing short of a real success
story, possibly the best the
league has known in recent times
and Church thrashed Arrow Valley
8-0, despite having 10 men for
most of the game when Owen
Hancox was dismissed. Church
were off to a flyer as Chris
Pratt had the home side ahead
inside a minute, then Owen
Hancox grabbed the second on 6
minutes. Pratt then hit his
second and the team's third with
a 65 yard strike (we would like
to see this!). Ashley Roland
then stole the show bagging 4
more before Adam Williams, on
his comeback, put the icing on
the cake with an eighth. Another
team well placed, hovering
outside the Top 3, are Golden
Lion Athletic Reserves who beat
Magna 6-1; Magna have again been
credited with taking the defeat
well and being a great bunch of
guys so it is hoped they get
some better results soon. GLA's
win has league legend Donovan
'Dodge' Pitt contemplating
retirement, presumably as he
didnt' play, but we don't
believe this will happen and
expect to see Dodge going strong
for some time yet!
5 cup games complete today's
action. We'll start in the
Premier Cup Group games where
Victoria Barnt Green became the
first team to reach the semis as
they top their group with a 100%
record, thanks to a very easy
8-1 win over Meadow Park.
Hat-tricks apiece for Richard
Bishop and Shaun May with Ryan
Molesworth and James Wells also
on target. It was a more
eventful game at Navigation Inn
as La Coruna and Afc Rubery
shared 14 goals in a 9-5
thriller which the home side
edged! Adam Pillinger got a
hat-trick, as did Craig Barnett
(although Barney has admitted a
handball offence in the run up
to one goal which the ref didn't
spot!) with Scott Gaffney's
brace and Joe Naughton's goal
completing the scoring; Rubery's
Adam Spencer hit 4 with Trevor
Maguire another, although
Rubery's cause during the game
wasn't helped when Kerry Manger
got sent off for abusive
language.
In the LMS Shield, Premier
Division Kings Park Rangers, who
have slipped on Division 2
banana skins in the past,
avoided such a mishap today as
they beat Galaxy Athletic 6-0
thanks mainly to Tobias Teague
hitting 4, whilst Division 1 Frankley
also avoided a lower division
shock beating Division 2
Callowbrook 4-0. Alvechurch
Lions also went goal crazy,
putting 10 past Wyre Forest
Panthers, thanks to Jack 'Mini
Messi' Brimmell grabbing 4, Dane
Morgan getting 3, Gareth
'Chopper' Hodgetts getting 2 and
1 for Alex Beard too, as the
gulf in class was clear for all
to see. Alvechurch Lions have
set up an intriguing
quarter-final with Afc Rubery in
the next round and with home
advantage, could a shock result
be on the cards? Kings Park
Rangers will play Victoria Barnt
Green in the only other decided
quarter tie at this stage.
Its County Cup time again next
weekend, we only have 4
representatives left this season
all in the Minor Cup and we
obviously wish them all well in
their respective games.

Sunday Report
The big freeze returned to
Worcestershire on Saturday night
but it didn't stop 7 games going
ahead this morning which is an
excellent number considering the
conditions when most teams
arrived at their pitches at
0930am!
We'll start in the Rose Bowl
Semi game and we have our first
known finalist; Congratulations
to Alan Preston and his Galaxy
Athletic team who beat AFC
Riflemans 4-1 to reach a final
in their very first season as a
club. When the draw was made,
Riflemans were hot favourites on
their form at the time and the
fact Galaxy had just lost top
marksman Josh Moore to Division
1 Rubery Oak. But just as a week
is a long time in football, 6
weeks is even longer and Galaxy
ran out deserved winners thanks
to a brace by Chad Boyce and
single strikes from Dan Gibbs
and Ben Pickersgill. Galaxy will
play either Churchfields United
or Rubery Social Allstars in the
final which is booked in for
Sunday 11th March at Bromsgrove
Sporting FC.
In Division 1, we had two games
played, both at Droitwich
Leisure Centre. Black Cross
Athletico had a great win over
the team directly above them in
the table beating Sporting
Grapevine 5-0. Tom Mason and Jon
Snell gave the home side a dream
start but were then pegged back
by Grapevine who took advantage
of not kicking into the sun by
applying severe pressure;
Luckily for Athletico, Matt
Chance managed to grab a third
to stem the flow and Athletico
went onto grab to further goals
from Lee Smith, who came off the
bench to smash home a free kick
which stunned everyone on the
pitch including himself, left
back Scott McCartney then added
a fifth late on to put the icing
on the cake and a big smile on
David Fisher's face. Crabmill
Monchengladbach are in good form
at the moment and they beat a
re-modelled Vernon Arms United
side 4-1. Crabmill thought they
had taken the lead early on when
Duncan Tye pounced on an effort
that was parried from the Vernon
goalkeeper only for it to be
ruled offside. Crabmill did take the
lead though when Tye was upended
in the area after a clever run
to earn a penalty which Dan Hill
stepped up to convert. Another
tidy finish from Hill before the
break gave Crabmill a 2-0 lead
at the interval. Vernon Arms
started the second half brightly
& grabbed an early goal after a
defensive error, before Duncan
Tye restored the 2 goal cushion
and Tommy Fessey scored one of
the goals of the season with a
superb solo effort to make it 4
and seal an important three
points which puts them into
second place in the table.
In Division 2, we only had the
one game played at the
International Stadium of
Charford where Millfields Boca
Juniors, who are impossible to
fathom out on a week by week
basis, beat Santiago RV 4-0. Hot
shot and a January transfer
target for numerous sides, Sam
Wright, helped himself to 2 more
goals, whilst Nick Lawley and
'Hustle Star' Mark Houghton
grabbing the others.
In the Kidderminster Hospital
Cup, just 2 games survived.
Firstly Premier Division side
Queens Head Dons (in the Junior
Cup) had a very impressive 1-0
home win over Kidderminster
Division 2 side Gornal Wood, who
boast players from West Midlands
Premier League leaders Black
Country Rangers. Craig Swallow
was the Dons hero with the only
goal. It all got too much for
Gornal who had 2 players
dismissed late on. The game was
all the more enjoyable for Ben
Taylor's men as Gornal were
apparently unbeaten all season
and it was most rewarding they
won with a clean sheet to boot
too. It wasn't such good news
for Redditch Athletic who bowed
out of the Minor Cup after a
poor performance against
Kidderminster Division 4 side
Stourbridge Glassboys West, this
despite Richard Tyler's
hat-trick. Redditch had been two
goals to the good as well, but
somehow managed to capitulate to
leave Kial Jackson extremely
disappointed and eyeing a bounce
back in next week's league game.
The 1230pm k/o came at Studley
3G, where the surface was just
as impressive despite the cold
conditions, as Studley United
and Victoria Barnt Green played
out a Premier Cup Group game.
Even though this game was played
10 weeks after a controversial
league affair between the two
sides, which saw Vic Barnt Green
snatch a draw from the jaws of
defeat, this game proved to be
as equally feisty with the
referee cautioning 6 players and
dismissing Studley's Phil Beech;
However Vic Barnt Green came out
3-1 winners thanks to goals by
Richard Bishop (2) and Joe
Cerrato, with Ryan Sproston
netting his 16th of the season
in return.
With several important games not
played today, all clubs should
be aware that there may be
short-term fixture amendments
for next Sunday and we will let
everybody know within the next
36 hours whether that is the
case or not.

Sunday Report
The festive period is over and
it was time for the teams in the
Bromsgrove and District Football
League to get cracking on the
second half of the season with
much to play for. A sunny warm
morning, more akin to an end of
season day, saw all the games
played which was surprising
considering the very soggy
conditions earlier on in the
week.
We'll start our round up in the
WA Harris Cup Quarter-Final
where Studley United visited
Meadow Park, whom they had
beaten just before xmas and it
was Studley who came out on top
again winning 6-1, to become the
first team through to the
semi-finals. Studley dominated
the early stages of the game but
it took till midway through the
half for them to strike the
first blow, Ryan Sproston
turning the ball home at the
back post after fine work by his
nimble strike partner Ben Gidley.
Meadow Park were huffing and
puffing up top, youngsters Rory
Tuffin and Dan Peach doing their
best but failing to test Simon
Boon in the away goal. Meadow
started the second period with
more purpose and missed several
opportunities to draw level
including striking the woodwork.
Unfortunately for them, this
proved a game changer as Studley
scored a second and third soon
after to assume control, the
third being a superb 30 yard
free kick from Gidley which
rifled into the top left hand
corner. Alex Reynolds pulled one
back with a fine one on one
finish to give the home side
hope and when player-manager
Andy Yarnold introduced himself
to proceedings up front, Meadow
seemed certain to get back into
the game as Yarnold was making a
difference. Their hopes were
killed off though when skilful
individual play by Sproston saw
him notch his hat-trick and when
Meadow Park's keeper Jon Cockle
left the field of play with a
dislocated finger, Yarnold went
back between the sticks and the
home side played out the game
with 10 men. Sproston and Gidley
continued to run rampant, taking
advantage of bad defending, to
bag one more each leaving
Sproston with 4, Gidley with 2
and a 6-1 scoreline. Credit to
both sides for playing the game
competitively and in a great
spirit.
The only other cup game played
today, where league games were
the norm, saw Alvechurch Lions
secure their Bridgwater Cup semi
place as they beat Rubery
Athletic 4-2, thanks to goals by
Dane Morgan (2), Jack Brimmell
and Mark Cater.
Premier Division action saw the
first 'galacticos' clash between
La Coruna and the Queens Head
Dons. Over the years, this
fixture has proved to be a
feisty affair and today's game
was also tough and competitive
but everyone managed to stay on
the pitch and the Dons won 2-1
to blow the title race wide
open! La Coruna veteran Rob
Southwell gave the home side the
lead before Ryan Brown grabbed a
first half leveller. Dons got a
second half penalty which
goalkeeper Dave Cummings
converted to give Dons the lead
and that's how it stayed,
although La Coruna's Luke Chance
hit the post from 25 yards in
the dying moments which would
have secured a point. Victoria
Barnt Green took advantage (to
go top) by having a comfortable
7-1 home win over Bromsgrove
Town, although Town should have
been 3-0 up before Barnt Green
struck but poor finishing was
their downfall. Daniel Lee
Wilkes hit a hat-trick whilst
Richard Bishop and Shaun May got
a brace each. Golden Lion
Athletic's 3-1 win over KPR, saw
them move off the bottom of the
league and their fight for
survival starts right here! KPR
went into an early lead but
Ellis Blakemore equalised before
the half-time oranges were
dished up. Simon Paramore gave
the home side the lead but then
KPR were awarded a penalty when
home defender Simon White fouled
inside the area but Mark Styler
smashed the spot-kick way over
the bar and Karl White
is apparently still looking for
the matchball in someone's
garden in Sidemoor estate!
Paramore put the icing on the
cake late on with a great break
away third goal, after superb
wing play by Sam Tedstone.
Into Division 1 and with
Alvechurch otherwise engaged,
Rubery Oak had a chance to go
joint top but they blew this by
losing 3-2 at home to Frankley.
The sides meet again next week
in the Centenary Cup semi and
Oak will be desperate to turn
things around. Belbroughton also
had a chance to close in on the
leaders but they were undone by
the odd goal in 5 at Charford
International Stadium by
Crabmill Monchengladbach, for
whom Dan Hill hit a brace and
Sean Anslow with one. The
interesting snippets in this
game were the 3 penalties
awarded by Arbiter Sutton and
that the Crabmill management
team, Craig Tye and Colin
Webb, were AWOL having missed
their flight home from holiday
(rumoured to be a scouting
mission)! Crabmill have games in
hand are well placed, as are
West Heath United who won 3-0 at
Henley United thanks to two
goals by Jason Gibbons (who
else) and combative midfielder
Chris Fox. Henley had their
chances too but just couldn't
convert the ball into the net.
Hewell Grangers beat Sporting
Grapevine 4-3 whilst Spa
Athletic and Black Cross
Athletico played out a 1-1 draw.
In the basement battle, Vernon
Arms got the better of Stoke
Prior 6-2, which saw Tom
Middleton on the scoresheet
twice with Stuart Day, new
signing James Ayres, Dan Kings
and Dan Arnold grabbing one
each. The result dumps Stoke
Prior to the bottom of the
league and 2012 is off to a bad
start for Maycroft's men, whilst
Vernon start the year with their
first league victory of the
season.
Division 2 results went the
league leaders way - Firstly
Rubery Social Allstars saw off
Santiago RV 3-1 in a match
switched to Droitwich Leisure
Centre due to the Allstars pitch
being unfit. Ben Heath hit
Santiago's goal but they were
unlucky not to get a draw as
they hit the woodwork and had a
goal disallowed. Allstars day
then got better as Millfields
Boca Juniors did them a massive
favour by disposing AFC Ipsley
2-0, although there was
controversy as early as the 5th
minute when an Ipsley player
thought he was fouled inside the
box but the decision went the
other way and the players
reaction to the decision led to
a straight red card, meaning
Ipsley had to play with 10 men
for the rest of the game. With
AFC Riflemans also dropping
points, congratulations to
Laburnum on a stunning 1-0 away
win (Ash Stirling the hero with
a screaming goal), it was left
to Redditch Athletic to gain
ground on the top dogs as they
saw off Galaxy Athletic 3-1
thanks to goals by Richard Tyler
(2) and Shane Shallcross. There
was also a stunning away win on
the adjoining Boleyn Road pitch
where Wyre Forest Panthers came
away with a 5-1 win against
Magna E and I, who performed
very poorly today which left
manager Jeff Kesterton bemused.
Panthers goalscorers were Colin
Parker with 2, Ryan Parker 1,
Andy Elliott 1 and Jake Coles 1
to give them a first league win,
although they still trail Arrow
Valley by 3 points. The team to
watch in the coming months could
indeed be Churchfields United,
who move into the mid-table and
have a host of games in hand,
their latest success coming
today with a 5-1 away win at
Arrow Valley. Owen Hancox hit 4,
one was a cheeky back heel
whilst Chris Adams got the other
goal. Meanwhile, Golden Lion
Athletic Reserves and
Callowbrook Swifts battled out a
1-1 draw but Dan Nickless was
the GLAR hero as he saved a
Callowbrook penalty deep into
time added on in the second
period. Eddie Connor got the
GLAR goal but a draw was an
overall fair result.
All eyes next week will be on
the Kidderminster Hospital Cup,
3 cracking but tough games for
our Premier sides and also the
Centenary and Rose Bowl
semi-finals. In the Rose Bowl,
we are guaranteed a new finalist
with neither side having made a
final previously. We'll bring
you all the action and a match
preview before next weekend.

Sunday Report
Brrrrr!!! That was what most
people thought as they left
their houses this morning to see
whether their games were on as
heavy overnight frost hit the
pitches in the Bromsgrove area.
Amongst a plethora of postponed
games due to frozen pitches, we
managed to get 5 games played,
with 2 being played on the 3G
surface, which is an invaluable
asset to have in the bad
weather. In comparison, the
Kidderminster League only got 12
games played, so with their
traditionally better pitches,
we've done really well to get
played what we did!
La Coruna move into the Quarters
of the WA Harris Cup with an
easy 10-0 victory over Vernon
Arms United, who had sacked
their manager in midweek and
moved him 'upstairs'; It was a
baptism of fire for the new
incumbent but La Coruna
dominated the game from start to
end to sign off 2011 on a
positive note. Scott Gaffney hit
4, with one each by Adam
Pillinger, Craig Barnett,
Richard Birch, Karl Cooper, Andy
Crowther and Martin Slevin.
In the Premier Division, Studley
United had a good 6-0 win over
Meadow Park. Ben Gidley hit a
hat-trick, Jak Albutt got a
brace and Ben Briggs on his
Studley debut with the other.
Jamie Hatfield scooped the home
sides MOTM award, with Meadow
Park's goalie (making a string
of saves to keep the scoreline
down) getting the away award.
Meadow Park and Studley play
each other in the cup on Jan
8th, when the action resumes in
the New Year and they will want
to seek revenge on this
scoreline. Meanwhile Studley move
to the top of the Premier
Division with a point lead over
3 sides, who all have games in
hand.
In the only Division One to
survive the biting conditions,
Spa Athletic's season is in
danger of blowing up as they let
in a stack of goals for the
second successive week, this
time against Crabmill
Monchengladbach who won 7-2. Crabmill
went into an early lead thanks
to Adam McManus's looping
header. Spa struck back and took
the lead through Anthony
Bonehill and John Billington,
but Crabmill resumed their
goalscoring prowess with Tommy
Fessey and Sean Anslow getting
the away side back in front for
half-time. Spa came out fighting
in the second period and it took
some good stops by Crabmill cat,
Jake Doyle, to prevent an
equaliser. As Spa tired late on,
Duncan Tye with one (a long
range volley) and Dan Hill with
a hat-trick gave the 'Goals for'
column a boost. Luke Benson and
Tommy Fessey had particularly
good games terrorising the Spa
full backs. The result takes
Crabmill up to 5th place and
they could yet have a say in the
title race.
Into Division Two to round up
today's action, firstly
Millfields Boca Juniors crashed
6-3 at home to GLA Reserves who
are renowned as the come back
specialists and today was no
different, having been 2-1 and
3-2 down. James Roberson took
the gloves for the Boca and made
some smart saves but he couldn't
prevent Jimmy Breakwell getting
2, Sam Partridge getting
another 2, David Copson Godwin
with 1 and lastly but no means
leastly, a spectacular 40 yard
free kick from the lovable rogue
Donavon 'Dodge' Pitt. Sam Wright
scored another brace for Boca as
his goalscoring continues to
attract the attention of higher
graded clubs. Meanwhile, AFC
Ipsley had a comfortable 8-0
victory over Arrow Valley in the
1230 k/o on Studley 3G. Luke
Bryan hit 4, James Mason 2 with
Nick Rumbold and Fabian Connolly
grabbing the others; More of a
shock was Nick Rumbold NOT
getting the MOTM award, this
time that compliment went to
Fabian Connolly! GLA Reserves
move up to 6th place whilst AFC
Ipsley go 2nd, 5 points behind
Allstars.
We wish all our readers a very
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year
- We'll be back on January 8th
next year when the league
re-commences after the festive
break! Have a good time in the
coming weeks!

Sunday Report
Into the middle of December and
only a handful of games called
off, what's going on?! Still the
rain anticipated held off until
midday and the players,
supporters and officials of
Bromsgrove League clubs had a
relatively dry morning as battle
re-commenced on the pitch.
We'll start in the Kidderminster
Hospital Cup though and some
good results for our sides.
We'll start at the Navigation
Inn where La Coruna saw off
Kidderminster Division 2 side
White Horse Celtic 5-1, thanks
to a brace from player-manager
Craig Barnett and one each for
James Turk, Adam Pillinger and
Scott Gaffney. White Horse
Celtic's manager had sent an
email to about 10 of our clubs
on Saturday morning asking how
to defeat La Coruna, but it
seems any information that was
provided back was not of much
use on this occasion. Another
Kidderminster Division 2 side to
be tumbled out of the
competition were Chaddesley
Corbett, who succumbed to the
Queens Head Dons at Longmore.
Diddy 'El Rifle' Cummings was
the goalscoring hero with both
goals, whilst Omar Salih is
getting his season on track
after missing nearly 3 months
through suspension with a superb
all round display. Golden Lion
Athletic were the third
Bromsgrove Premier side to make
it through, this time beating
Stourbridge Glassboys 3-2. GLA
found themselves behind but man
mountain Anton Deli Bovi
equalised with a deflected shot.
Marcus Allbutt put GLA ahead
only for Glassboys to peg them
back until returning striker
Simon Paramore earned hero
status with the winner late on.
Added to GLA Reserves' 2-1 win
at Kidderminster Division 4 side
Vizibar, David 'Gappy' Godwin
and Sam Partridge on target, it
was a fine day for the club.
Partridge's red card for the
reserves was the only blot on
the landscape.
There wasn't such good news for
Studley United who lost to
Phoenix Sports (Kidderminster
Division 1), Studley's goals
came c/o of Ryan Sproston and
Ben Gidley, whilst KPR lost out
to Kidderminster Prem side
Grange Athletic 3-0, manager
Chris Walker blaming a lack of
self-belief in the first period
and at 2-0 down, it was a very
hard and ultimately fruitless
way back. The game between
Stourbridge Glassboys West and
Redditch Athletic was postponed
after an early morning incident
in Redditch prevented some of
the Redditch team travelling to
the game. This game is more than
likely going to be replayed as a
consequence.
Apart from those cup games,
everyone else got some league
games in. In the Premier
Division, there were home wins
for Victoria Barnt Green and AFC
Rubery, both by narrow one goal
margains. Barnt Green's goals
came from Chris Thurbon, Shaun
May and Daniel Lee Wilkes. AFC
Rubery's game at home to
Bromsgrove Town was entertaining
to say the least and with AFC
having the bare 11, Secretary
Mark McCleary donning the
gloves, this goes down as a good
victory to continue their recent
resurgence. Matt Crawford opened
the scoring for AFC, who then
fell behind 2-1 as Town hit
back. Dan Fogarty's dismissal on
the stroke of half-time reduced
the visitors to 10 men and AFC
soon capitalised and made it
2-2. Town went ahead again
through Josh Steadman's penalty
with AFC recovering to score 2
more goals to seal the points,
Stephen Mcglen and Nick Groves
with the successful shooting.
In Division 1 and it was a good
day all around for Alvechurch
Lions who move 3 clear at the
head of affairs. Firstly they
beat the normally defensively
resilient Spa Athletic 8-2 (Jack
Brimmell with 5, Mark Cater,
Gareth Hodgetts and Gary Farmer)
then returned to the changing
rooms to learn that nearest
pursuers Rubery Oak and Rubery
Athletic had both dropped
points. Rubery Oak lost 3-2 to
Crabmill Monchengladbach and
turned in a disappointing
performance to boot. Midfield
playmaker Sam Varney had to step
into the keepers shoes and not
having a proper keeper always
plays into the others teams
hands and so it proved today.
Sean Anslow with 2 and a strike
by Luke Benson for Crabmill with
Josh Moseley and on OG for the
Oak. The only bright spot on the
horizon for Oak was the debut of
new signing Josh Moore from
Galaxy Athletic who looked sharp
when he entered the fray. Rubery
Athletic's dropped points came
at Sporting Grapevine in a 6
goal humdinger which included
goals, controversy and general
thrills and spills. First off,
the referee awarded FOUR
penalties in the game, 3 for
Rubery Athletic, but Grapevine
keeper Ben Gardner kept out 2 of
them (both from top scorer Andy
Court) with superb saves.
Grapevine were 3-1 up but credit
to Ian Rushton's men who showed
bottle to gain a point, sealed
when Ian Hickey netted with, yes
you've guessed it a penalty,
this was Hickey's first goal
since returning from a broken
leg. Andy Court had better luck
with two goals from general
play. Grapevine's goals came
courtesy of Kevin Gilbert,
player-manager Gary Smith and
Matt Ford with a lovely lob.
There was also excitement at The
Artrix Arena where West Heath
United convincingly beat Vernon
Arms United 6-2 thanks to Jason
Gibbons's hat-trick (yet another
one), Joe Stewart, Andy Fox and
Jim Carnihan with the other
strikes. Vernon's task was made
much harder when at 4-1 down,
Michael 'KRO' Butler made a
wonderful save from a shot
destined for the top corner but
unfortunately as Butler is an
outfield player, Arbiter
Pearsall quite rightly had no
choice but to show him the red
card.
There was also a lively game at
the Droitwich Leisure Centre
complex where Black Cross
Athletico and Belbroughton
Athletic faced off and
Belbroughton took the points
with a 4-2 win. Black Cross have
improved in recent weeks, last
weeks drubbing aside and they
soon showed they were a side
full of confidence when taking
an early lead on 4 minutes;
Belbroughton's defenders stood,
watched and then dithered with a
loose ball and Andy Wild, the
former Stoke Works FC manager,
slotted home from 6 yards for an
easy goal. The lead was doubled
on 21 minutes when James Ryan's
shot found the corner of the net
with some aplomb. 6ft 6 plus
target man Snell was giving the
Belbroughton backline nightmares
and Ryan was presented with a
chance to extend the lead soon
after, but Tom Calvert in the
Belbroughton goal made a
wonderful save from 6 yards out;
It was a chance that has to go
down in the 'gilt-edged'
listings and had that gone in,
the game might have been dead
and buried. But as is so often
the case, the fightback began
right there and so it proved.
Pint sized Alex 'Billy' Mallan
wriggled free and pulled one
back on 32 minutes, before Jamie
Gatfield rifled home a Chris
Innes free-kick, on the half
volley, from all of 25 yards
which left Michael Beaty in the
home goal grasping fresh air.
2-2 at the half-time interval
and all to play for. Snell was
subdued by Alistair Ashmore in
the second half and with it,
Athletico's cutting edge went.
Mallan headed his second, a free
header from a corner to make it
3-2, before he completed his
hat-trick by forcing the ball
home from close range to seal
the points. Hewell Grangers had
another good win, 4-3 over
Frankley, but the game was
marred by a broken leg for
Richie Robinson of Frankley and
we wish him well in his
recovery.
Into Division 2 and four games
played. We'll start at Triplex
Social Club and Rubery Social
Allstars notched up yet another
victory, this time a tight one.
by the odd goal in three,
against Galaxy Athletic. Goals
by Mark Ryley and Les Turner
(again!!) were enough to secure
a 9th league win on the spin and
put them 7 points clear at the
head of the table. AFC Ipsley
bounced back from last weeks
shock defeat by beating Wyre
Forest Panthers 6-2 (Ipsley go
third). Santiago RV and
Millfields Boca Juniors battled
out a 4-4 draw, with Santiago in
front 4 times! Tom Dale had
Santiago in front after 90
seconds, with further strikes
from Mike Price and new signing
from Rubery Athletic Ben Heath,
chipped in with 2 debut goals.
The Callowbrook Swifts and Magna
Exteriors Result has not
yet been received so we are
unable to report on what
happened in that game.
Last action of 2011 next week,
before we head into a 3 week
holiday shut down and the pick
of the games look like being the
local cup derby between
Callowbrook Swifts and Frankley,
whilst Victoria Barnt Green have
a tricky tie at Rubery Oak. West
Heath United and Rubery Athletic
have also built up a strong
rivalry over the years so their
Division 1 clash is likely to be
exciting as well.
We'll see you all at the same
time same place next week for
the round up.

Sunday Report
Only one place to start today as
we head into December's
programme and that's the WFA
Premier Cup game between La
Coruna and Black Horse, held
over from last Sunday due to
Black Horse being able to enter
two county cup competitions;
Although La Coruna put up a very
good fight, they were cruelly
dumped out of the competition on
penalties, after the sides
finished 2-2 on 90 minutes and
3-3 after extra time, both sides
ending with 10 men after two red
cards. La Coruna's goalscorers
were Scott Gaffney, Luke Chance
and James Turk. This leaves the
League with representation in
only the Minor Cup this season,
however we always expected a
tough time in the Junior and
Premier Cup in the first season
due to the significant jump in
standard. Let's go again
next year!
In the Rose Bowl quarter-finals,
Galaxy Athletic, Churchfields
United and AFC Riflemans join
Rubery Social Allstars in the
last 4 and this guarantees at
least 2 new finalists come March
time as neither of the sides
left in have ever reached a
final. Churchfields will play
Rubery Social Allstars, with
Galaxy Athletic facing off with
AFC Riflemans in the semis.
Galaxy secured their place in
the semis with a fine 2-1 away
win at GLA Reserves, whilst
Churchfields got out of jail at
Callowbrook as a late normal
time equaliser by Owen Hancox
took the game into overtime,
where Chris Adams popped up with
his second winner in as many
weeks. AFC Riflemans beat Wyre
Forest Panthers 2-0.
Into the Premier Division and
just one game survived (after a
surprising decision to call off
the KPR V Bromsgrove Town game
at the HDA club due to an unfit
pitch), this was the game at
Baytree Farm where AFC Rubery
comfortably beat Meadow Park
7-1. AFC'S goals came after
Meadow Park took the lead, the
AFC scorers were James Gasson
with a brace, Andy Keenahan with
a brace, Justin Harris, Darryl
Clossick and Stephen Mcglen who
scored a wonderful 40 yard goal.
Carl Martin, on his return to
the club after leaving
Longbridge in the Festival
League, ran the show and picked
up the man of the match award to
boot.
There was a surprise defeat for
West Heath United in Division 1
as they crashed 2-1 at Hewell
Grangers, with Ben Stewart and
Simon Evans on the scoresheet
for the Prison side, and Joe
Stewart in reply. West Heath are
prone to these 'odd' results and
it could cost them in the end of
season shake up if repeated too
often. Meanwhile Rubery Athletic
smashed 9 past Black Cross
Athletico (9-1), Stuart Lowe
hitting a hat-trick and Rubery
Oak had a good 3-1 away win at
tough to beat Spa Athletic who
lost their unbeaten league
record in the process. Spa
started well and could have been
3 up inside the first 20
minutes. Josh Ferguson and
Nathan Brown were two of the
Oak's scorers and James Carne
also saved a penalty for Oak.
Not Spa's day by the sounds of
it!
Henley United have been very
inconsistent lately but they
picked up a good away win at
Vernon Arms, 6-2, Adam O Hare
with a hat-trick, Bradley
Townsend with a brace and Dan
Nurthern the other. Vernon had
gone into the break 2-1 up
thanks to a brace by Jon Dankert
but Henley took over second
period and also managed to miss
two penalties, O Hare and Kyle
Whiston the guilty parties. It
has been rumoured Vernon Arms
Manager Stuart Day kept his
players locked in the dressing
room long into the afternoon as
a full inquest into the defeat
was heard. Meanwhile dark horses
in the division who are
impossible to fathom out week on
week, Frankley, had a fine 5-0
win over Belbroughton Athletic -
A special mention goes to Andy
'Alan Shearer' Kibble for his
(rare) brace and Matt
Macgillvray also had his
shooting boots on with a
hat-trick.
Another surprise result, this
time in Division 2, was Santiago
RV's win over title hopefuls AFC
Ipsley, but a fine 2-1 victory
it was for Steve Shannon's young
side especially as they trailed
at the break. Second half goals
by in-form Dean Willis and Mike
Price secured the three points.
Rubery Social Allstars wasted no
time in pouncing on the slip up
as they beat Laburnum away, 4-1,
Ryan Wood with 2, Craig Walton
and secretary Les Turner with
yet another goal! Allstars are
now 4 points clear. Redditch
Athletic can catch them up
though and they were firing on
all cylinders at the Charford
International Stadium today,
where they saw off Millfield
Boca Juniors 6-0, goals by
Richard Tyler (2), Ibby Akhlaq
(2), Scott Harris and Roland
Rignall. In particular Rignall
was outstanding all game and if
Redditch can keep him fit all
season, he will be a big boost
to a side who know how to score
and win games anyway. Magna
creep into the top 6 as well,
thanks to a 2-0 win over
improving Arrow Valley, John
Brookes and Lee Price on target.
In the Bromsgrove Charity Cup,
there was mixed success for the
league's two representatives
playing today. Firstly Sporting
Grapevine narrowly lost to
Studley Sporting, 2-1, which was
a fine show against a Redditch
Prem side, whilst Victoria Barnt
Green overcame Bromsgrove
General 4-1, thanks to goals by
Richard Bishop (2), Shaun May
and the midfield maestro Daniel
Lee Wilkes.
And to round off the day, we
jump into the WA Harris Cup and
the Bridgwater Cup; Queens Head
Dons beat Golden Lion Athletic
2-1 in a hard fought close game
(Harris Cup) at Stadia Brush,
whilst Alvechurch Lions beat
Stoke Prior 8-2 in the
Bridgwater Cup, Stoke Prior's
consolation goals coming from
Adam Cooper who got both. Stoke
were holding Lions to a single
goal at half-time, but the
capitulation began after the
second goal went in. Alvechurch
Lions v Rubery Athletic should
be a belter in the
quarter-final!
The spotlight falls on the
Kidderminster Hospital Cup next
weekend and some interesting
ties to boot especially the
Studley United v Phoenix Sports
game which is sure to be
ultra-competitive and KPR's trip
to Grange Athletic is daunting
to say the least. Winnable ties
for everyone else though and we
wish all the sides the best of
luck. The pick of the League
games next week looks like being
Rubery Oak's visit to Crabmill
Monchengladbach. We're thin on
the ground for reporters next
week, but we'll do our best to
bring you all the news, thrills
and spills next Sunday evening! |

Sunday Report
This time last year we didn't
play any game as the winter
weather hit the area - Just the
one game postponed today though
(Santiago v Wyre Forest
Panthers) due to an unplayable
surface at Colmers Farm school.
All other games went ahead as
scheduled with the usual mix of
shock results, stunning
performances, goal gluts and
there was even a glut of red
cards this week!
We'll start in the WFA Premier
Cup and unfortunately we only
have ONE representative left in
the competition now, as Victoria
Barnt Green, Queens Head Dons
and Bromsgrove Town all crashed
out. Despite several coach loads
of Vic supporters travelling to
Upton Snodsbury, their side
couldn't do the business and
lost 4-1, Shaun May's goal being
little more than a consolation.
Queens Head Dons, missing
several key players along with
the departure of summer signing
Jamie Sippitts, lost 3-1 to
Perrywood. Bromsgrove Town
faired slightly better, indeed
their game went into extra time
with the 90 minute scoreline
2-2, but Athletico proved too
strong in the extra periods of
play and the Redditch League
side ran out 6-4 winners. The
mantle now lies with La Coruna,
who play Black Horse next
Sunday, which is a 1pm kick off
at Navigation Inn, we hope as
many of you as possible will get
down to the game to support
them.
Into the WFA Junior Cup and our
last representative in this
competition bowed out, Spa
Athletic losing 4-2 to Wilden
Village at the Wilden Postage
Stamp Arena. A tough draw
against a good strong side who
are excellent at home, with Spa
not quite being good enough on
the day. The WFA Minor cup
bought success though and huge
congratulations go out to
Churchfields United, AFC Ipsley,
Millfields Boca Juniors and GLA
Reserves who all safely
progressed and made it a
collective score on the day
Bromsgrove League 4 Evesham
League. The comeback of the day
though goes to GLA Reserves, who
having been 3-0 down to Evesham
League side Tesco United, hit
back to win 5-3. Millfields Boca
are now on a run and they took
care of another Evesham side,
Lenches Lions (who beat
Riflemans in the previous round)
by 2 goals to 1, thanks to goals
by Sam Wright and Oli Pugh. Adam
Jones who apparently inspired
his team today as well as
missing a penalty, has also
picked up the nickname 'The
Seal' and we here at HQ, are
curious to know why!
Churchfields are also ticking
along nicely and Bredon from the
Evesham league were sent packing
at the newly named 'Roland
Sidemoor Park', goals by Owen
Hancox and Chris Adams. Whilst
those sides enjoyed the home
comforts, it was an early start
for AFC Ipsley who travelled to
the Evesham area to play Ashton
Under Hill and made the journey
a successful one with a 4-1 win,
with a hat-trick by
Player/Secretary Andy Squibb and
a single goal by Alex Durrall
after a solo run. The one team
not to make it through were
Redditch Athletic who got
hammered 6-1 by Evesham WMC, a
surprising result but Richard
Tyler got his 30th goal of the
season. Kial Jackson has
promised some 'big signings' in
the next few weeks but this
seems a knee-jerk reaction to a
bad day at the office.
Just one game in the Premier
League today and it was at
Stadia Brush, where KPR and
Meadow Park battled out a 2-2
draw, Meadow Park coming from 2
goals behind to snatch a point
in controversial circumstances
which left KPR manager Chris
Walker initially refusing to
talk to the media! KPR probably
only have themselves to blame
though being in front and with
MP also having a man sent off,
it's definitely a case of 2
points dropped. On the plus
side, Luke Pedwell make his long
awaited comeback from injury and
scored within 5 minutes of being
on the pitch.
Five games in Division 1
today and Alvechurch Lions
have opened up a 3 point
gap at the top of the
table as they beat Hewell
Grangers 4-2. Richard Skan,
Jack Brimmell, Dane Morgan
and Curt Haycock the
individuals with their
shooting boots firmly
nailed on. Rubery Athletic
suffered a surprising home
defeat to inconsistent
Frankley 3-0, whilst the
real shock result came as
Crabmill Monchengladbach
lost 1-0 to Black Cross
Athletico; The Athletico
fans carried hero James
Ryan on their shoulders
post match as his goal was
all that separated the
sides. Crabmill had Black
Cross pinned back but just
couldn't find a way past
Michael Beaty in the home
goal. Sporting Grapevine
bounced back from their
recent horror results
beating Stoke Prior 3-0
(who made more defensive
gaffs) whilst yet another
team imposed a media black
out, Vernon Arms United,
who crashed 7-0 at home to
Belbroughton who shook off
their last 2 poor
performances.
Into Division 2 and its
another win for Phil
Richardson's Arrow Valley
as they came from 2 goals
behind to stun Galaxy
Athletic at Boleyn Road.
Galaxy were 2 up after 48
minutes but Dan Shemmans
reduced the deficit
shortly after. Two goal
hero Tom Mitic saved the
day for Valley, one of his
goals being a 25 yard free
kick. AFC Riflemans and
Callowbrook Swifts played
out a 2-2 draw in the only
other game played in the
division.
Three other internal cup
games played today and in
the Battle of Baytree,
Premier Division AFC
Rubery looked to be facing
a very difficult tie
against Division 1 Rubery
Oak but they saw off the
Oak threat to win
3-1. Substitutes Andy
Keenahan (with a brace,
one an inch perfect 18
yard lob) and Darryl
Clossick the men on
target. The game also saw
James Parker for Oak and
Greg Cooper for AFC
dismissed as both sides
ended with 10 men. AFC
travel to Alvechurch Lions
next in what is another
hard game. In the
Bridgwater Cup, Division 1
Henley United finally
returned to winning ways
beating Division 2 Magna
4-2, but it had to go into
extra-time with the scores
locked at 2-2 on 90
minutes. Henley's task was
made harder when their
goalkeeper was sent off
early doors but the 10 men
won through in the end,
Adam O Hare with a
hat-trick and Dan Nurthern
with the other. AFC
Ipsley stand between
Henley United and a
semi-final. However West
Heath United have made the
semis, beating Rubery
Social Allstars 3-0 away
from home in their
quarters tie. Allstars
would have fancied causing
a shock, but West Heath
never allowed them into
the game and Jason
Gibbons's hat-trick was
the difference between the
sides. Kenny Matthews saw
red for the Allstars.
And lastly but not leastly,
the afternoon kick-off on
Studley 3G in
the Bromsgrove
Charity Cup saw Studley
United and La Coruna
battle out a 14 goal
humdinger, with La Coruna
coming out 8-6 winners.
With the scores deadlocked
at 3 each on 90 minutes
(the scoreline when the
two sides played on the
opening day of the
season), an amazing 8
goals were scored in
extra-time! Unconfirmed
reports suggest Studley
were 6-5 up with 5 minutes
to go so if that's the
case, Jak Albutt's
hat-trick was in vain as
were strikes by Matt
Albrow, Ben Gidley and
Jamie Hatfield! La
Coruna's goals came c/o of
Craig Barnett (3), Scott
Gaffney (2), Nick O
Connell (2) and James
Turk. A great advert for
the Bromsgrove League and
Bromsgrove Charity Cup.

Sunday Report
An Autumnal mix of cold and
foggy weather greeting this
weeks participants in the
Bromsgrove and District
Football League. With the
exception of Belbroughton
Athletic's game with
Alvechurch Lions which was
taken off the fixture list
late on Saturday evening, all
other games were successfully
completed.
We'll start today's round up
in the WA Harris Cup where two
Premier Division sides had
tough away games, but both
came through unscathed. Kings
Park Rangers made the journey
to the Nou Camp Rec in Rubery
to take on Division 1 Rubery
Athletic and came away with a
3-1 victory c/o of an own
goal, Tobias Teague and Nick
Richardson. Rubery had fought
back to 2-1 but KPR had enough
to see the game out and secure
a home tie with AFC Ipsley in
the next round. Studley United
had an even bigger scare as
they played Division 2
Redditch Athletic on the
3G and with the scores
deadlocked at the end of
extra-time, Studley won 3-1 in
a penalty shoot out, Simon
Boon the Studley hero with
some great shoot out saves.
Richard Tyler had scored 2
more goals in the 120 minutes
to add to his seasonal tally
(he is now fast approaching 30
goals!) and more good saves
by Boon had ensured Studley
had a bite of the cherry in
the penalty lottery. Studley's
experience and cool heads made
the difference and they now
travel to Meadow Park in the
quarter-final. You can view
footage of the penalty shoot
out on Studley United's
facebook group page which
unfortunatly, we have been
unable to transfer over onto
our own group page!
In the LMS Shield Second
Round, Division 1 Spa Athletic
had a tough game against
Division 2 Rubery Social
Allstars which also went to
extra-time, but Spa came
through. Their excellent
season continues and the
defeat was Allstars first for
sometime and ended a run of 9
straight victories. Spa took
the lead before Allstars top
scorer Ryan Wood
equalised. Spa scored in
extra-time and clung on, Joel
Keogh's penalty save in the
120th minute prevented Spa
putting the icing on the
cake. Bridgwater Cup Round 2
action saw Churchfields United
beat GLA Reserves 2-0, Ash
Roland at the double whilst
Frankley returned to winning
ways with a comfortable 5-0
victory over Vernon Arms
United in the Centenary Cup.
Into the Premier Division and
it was 5 of the best for the
Queens Head Dons at Stadia
Brush, as they beat GLA 5-2.
Dons were 3 up but GLA pulled
two goals back and an
equaliser looked on the cards,
until a break away goal put
the game to bed. Recent new
signing Craig Swallow,
ironically from GLA, bagged a
brace, with another new
signing Sean Chance opening
his Dons account, further
strikes by Oli O'Connell and
Alex Jarvis securing the win.
The biggest talking point of
the game came when Swallow was
shown his marching orders
after picking up two yellow
cards, the first yellow for
removing his shirt after
scoring, with his t-shirt
underneath revealing a 'Happy
Birthday' message to GLA
player and former Rednal Activ
team mate Matt Draper! The
second yellow was for a foul
tackle. Swallow is a talented
striker and with Salih,
Chance, Palmer, Albutt,
Sippetts and Cummings to play
with, his goals are going to
be needed to even get a
shirt. Meanwhile a strong La
Coruna side easily saw off a
severely depleted Meadow Park
side 7-0 - Ominously for the
rest of the division, La
Coruna go top (with games in
hand) and they could well be
very hard to dislodge now!
Into Division 1 and Crabmill
Monchengladbach had a good 3-2
win over Sporting Grapevine
who are having a very
frustrating season not being
able to string a run of
results together. In an
exciting game of 3 penalties,
Crabmill edged home with
Duncan Tye hitting the winner
(from the spot) in the last
minute. Tye had scored earlier
as had Dan Hill. Rubery Oak
also had a good result,
winning 4-0 over Henley
United, to warm up for next
weeks Baytree Farm derby with
AFC Rubery. Josh Ferguson
continued his prolific
scoring, bagging a hat-trick,
whilst Alex Griffiths Hughes
scored his fourth goal of the
season, not bad for a right
back by trade. Oak go joint
top. There was also a welcome
7-1 win for Black Cross
Athletico, their first league
win of the season, the result
sees Stoke Prior (their
victims) drop into the bottom
two and all set for a
relegation battle. Black Cross
dominated the game and Stoke
Prior made several mistakes
which gifted the home side the
goals.
There is something brewing in
the air between Millfields
Boca Juniors and The Stoat!
Stoaty predicted another loss
today but Boca proved him
wrong with a 3-1 win over
Galaxy Athletic who have just
lost their swagger in recent
weeks. Sam Wright, Dave
Pritchard and Adam Jones all
on target. The Stoat has
promised to visit a Boca game
in the near future to assess
their prospects in more depth.
Santiago RV also won by the
same scoreline at Laburnum,
goals by Darren Sorrell and
Dean 'Messi' Willis helping
them along the way. The
Santiago goalkeeper with the
legendary name, Dean 'Dontbeshygiveitatry'
Delaney had a good game
too. The only downside was
another red card, Santiago's
third of the season. Meanwhile
at the 10000 capacity Boleyn
Road Park, AFC Ipsley
propelled themselves into the
leaders pack with a 5-3 win
over Magna E&I, thanks to
goals by Higgins (3) and Andy
Squibb (2). Magna hit the
woodwork twice and didn't
quite get the rub of the
green. Ipsley's pocket sized
Fabian Connolly, formerly of
Church United, played for
Ipsley and he will be a very
important cog in the team if
they can keep him, he picked
up the man of the match award
today. Thanks to AFC Rubery's
Mark McCleary for standing in
to referee this game. Lastly,
we head over to Blakedown
Sports Centre to report that
Wyre Forest Panthers narrowly
lost to AFC Riflemans (3-1),
who will see the result as a
rot-stopper. Due to an
unexpected
communications failure, we
cant bring you any more
details on the game.
A big week next Sunday with
numerous County Cup games.
Good luck to our 9 sides still
in the competition, La Coruna
play their game the week after
to make the 10. We also have
our first ever afternoon
kick-off, albeit a Bromsgrove
Charity Cup game, so there are
3 games on the 3G next week!
Rubery Oak v AFC Rubery will
also be tasty, whilst it's
last roll of the dice for
Henley United in the
Bridgwater Cup against Magna,
as they have been knocked out
of all the others. Henley are
desperate to go one better
than last season and Kevin
Oakes/Adam O Hare will need
their men to regain the
scoring thread.

The teams in the Bromsgrove
League fell silent for a minute
before their matches today in
memory of Remembrance Sunday.
Thank you to all clubs and
referees for their co-operation.
On the pitch, a real mixed bag
of results, some exciting games
and some shock results to boot!
We'll start at the Navigation
Inn where La Coruna took on West
Heath United in the WA Harris
Cup and an upset was on the
cards at half-time as lower
ranked West Heath went in with a
1-0 lead thanks to Scott
Taylor's goal. It could have
been two but a miraculous goal
line clearance saved the day. La
Coruna equalised on 60 minutes,
took the lead on 70 minutes and
a late penalty finally knocked
the stuffing out of Heath, goals
by James Turk and Martin Slevin
(2) doing the damage. Victoria
Barnt Green also had a home tie
against lower league opposition
and ran out 6-3 winners against
Boca Juniors. Dan Wilkes with
two (he later missed a penalty
for his hat-trick), Richard
Bishop with two, Shaun May and
Phil Cross with one apiece. We
think Sam Wright got a hat-trick
for Boca in reply and Mark Billbrough
could have the higher division
clubs after his hot property
soon! Another WA Harris Cup game
at Sidemoor, this time in the
second round Churchfields v
Ipsley, went the way of Ipsley
but only after extra time with
the sides locked at 3 each on 90
minutes. Ipsley had staged a
comeback from 3-0 down to
eventually win 6-3, their goals
coming courtesy of Nick
Rumbold's hat-trick, Brendan
Hicks's brace and James Mason.
Rubery Oak v Victoria Barnt
Green now looks a particularly
tasty game in the next round.
LMS Shield action saw two games
played - Callowbrook Swifts won
4-2 against AFC Riflemans (who
have now lost 3 on the spin) but
the real stunner came at Rubery
Leisure Centre where Division 2
Wyre Forest Panthers stunned
Division 1 Sporting Grapevine
and came away with a 3-1
victory. Grapevine had been
re-instated in the competition
after Rednal Activ's demise but
they failed to take advantage of
their second chance. Goals by
ex-referee Sam Beesley (2) and
Ryan Parker give Panthers an
away trip to Alvechurch Lions in
the next round. Grapevine had
their chances in a game they
dominated possession wise but
its all about putting the ball
in the onion bag! A good penalty
claim on 5 minutes when Brad
Miller was tugged down in the
box might have made a difference
but its back to the drawing
board for new Grapevine manager
Gary Smith as he tries to arrest
his sides slump and inconsistent
season.
One game in the Centenary Cup
today and Spa Athletic went down
2-0 to Alvechurch Lions who won
thanks to Mark Cater and Jack
Brimmell scoring. Lions are
believed to be closing in on
signing Rubery Oak skipper Sam
Varney in a move which will
bolster their squad depth even
further. Meanwhile in the Rose
Bowl, its a first ever
semi-final for Rubery Social
Allstars who beat Laburnum 1-0
at Triplex Social Club, as yet
another club fail to score past
Allstars at their new HQ. Ryan
Wood's goal was all that settled
the game as Laburnum 'parked the
bus' somewhat.
Onto the League action and in
reverse order today, we'll start
in Division 2. Redditch Athletic
beat GLA Reserves 4-2 thanks to
goals by Tom Whitehead (2),
Shane Shellcross and Richard
Tyler's 27th of the season. GLA
Reserves were slightly
understrength as top scorer Sam
Partridge was with the first
team (more on that in the
Premier Division review) but the
goal of the game came from GLA's
veteran workhorse midfielder
David Wrafter, who straight from
a kick-off, spotted the Redditch
keeper off the line and hit a
thunderous shot which sailed
straight into the net! Magna's
season got back on track with a
5-4 win over Galaxy although the
home side were sweating as
Galaxy battled back well and
could have snatched a point late
on. Lastly but by no means
leastly, a big shout out to
Arrow Valley who recorded their
first win in some 18 months
(11th April 2010)! The Arrow
Valley heroes were Simon Madden
and Ben Povey and the beers are
most definitely on Big Phil
Richardson tonight! Well done to
all at the club for their
perseverance and they are not at
the foot of the table either,
jumping above Wyre Forest
Panthers!
Into Division 1 and Belbroughton
Athletic's season is in danger
of falling apart after a good
start, as they were hammered 9-1
by goal hungry Rubery Oak who
have players in all positions
who find the net with regular
ease. Braces for Dave Clarke and
Joshua 'Reggie' Fergusson,
backed up with strikes from
Nathan Brown, Craig Edwards,
Alex Griffiths Hughes, James
Parker and Josh Mosley. Oak move
into third leapfrogging
Belbroughton who are now fourth.
Another side to bag nine goals
today were Crabmill
Monchengladbach who beat
helpless Stoke Prior 9-0. Bren
Bartlett's hat-trick setting the
way but assisted by Dan Hill and
Stee Collett (2 each), Luke
Benson and Tommy Fessey. Rubery
Athletic are second after a hard
fought victory over improving
Vernon Arms United. Mitch Wrenn opened
the scoring after the home
defence failed to clear their
lines. Vernon came close to an
equaliser but Lammas's
thunderbolt struck the woodwork.
Into the second half and
Vernon's enterprising play got
its rewards. A lovely 4 man move
involving Dankert, Middleton and
Lawrence ended up with Arnold's
bullet header nearly ripping the
net open. Vernon's goalkeeper
had a marvellous game and made
several good saves to keep
Athletic out. However disaster
struck in the 90th minute for
Vernon Arms as Hunt pulled down
an Athletic player in the box
and the referee had no
hesitation in pointing to the
spot. Andy Court stepped up and
fired home the winner. A really
good game played by both sides.
Black Cross Athletico picked up
their first league point of the
season as they drew 1-1 with B45
based mid-table side Frankley. A
good performance by Black Cross
and they were perhaps unlucky
not to win the game.
Into the Premier Division and
the battle of the 3G sides ended
with a 'home' win for Bromsgrove
Town, who narrowly won 1-0
against Studley United, thanks
to James 'Paris' Hylton's goal.
Studley were unlucky not to get
a point and had numerous shots
on goal, but their strikers had
an off day. Another team to win
and keep a clean sheet were
Queens Head Dons who won 2-0 at
Meadow Park. Many thank to
referee's appointments secretary
John T Harris for stepping in to
cover this game at very short
notice as the nominated official
had to cancel. Meanwhile at
Baytree Farm, Golden Lion
Athletic finally got their
season up and running with a
fine 6-3 win over AFC Rubery.
GLA called up in-form striker
Sam Partridge from the reserves
and he re-paid Karl White's
faith by banging home 4 goals
and winning the man of the match
award. GLA were soon 3-0 up at
Baytree with clinical finishes
from the pacy Partridge and
Marcus Albutt after fast counter
attacking footballl; This was
after Rubery dominated
possession early doors with Adam
Spencer particularly skilful and
tricky up front. AFC Rubery were
then given a potential lifeline
when Joe Patterson bought down
Spencer in the area but Andy
Wilkins, who was later cautioned
for dissent, fired the penalty
wide. The highlight of the first
half though was a brilliant 25
yard free kick from GLA's
Matthew Draper, who curled it
over the wall and into the top
corner for an unstoppable
strike. 4-1 to GLA at half-time.
Rubery got back in the game in
the second period when Spencer's
corner was palmed into his own
net by James 'Buzz' Burrows in
the away goal but Partridge soon
restored the 3 goal lead after
calamitous defending in the
Rubery backline, with yet
another strike making it 6-2.
Rubery substitute Greg Cooper,
who had a fine second half,
pulled another goal back later
on with a very good one on one
finish but it was too little too
late and GLA ran out worthy
winners as their youngsters
out-ran an ageing back line; The
press reports suggested GLA had
been playing well without
getting results and on today's
evidence, these were accurate.
Captain Deli-Bovi led the
backline well and was very
strong in the air. We can not
end this mini-report without
mentioning Brett Griffin's
attempts on goal which all went
horribly wide and it is hoped he
will stick to defending in the
future!
Decent cup games next week,
especially the WA Harris ties
between Rubery Athletic/Kings
Park Rangers and Redditch
Athletic/Studley. We'll be
sending a team of reporters out
to all the games next week to
bring you unrivalled coverage of
all the action.
