Sunday Report - 2017/18 Season - Week 28 - Sunday 11th February 2018

A much reduced fixture list for Week 28 due to the majority of teams wanting to go and watch the second city derby. With several postponements as the Winter shows no signs of letting up, we only got 6 games played.

Highgate Dynamos fantastic FA National Cup run came to an abrupt end as they crashed out 5-1 to the craic Cypriot side New Salamis - Always going to be a tough game this, the hardest draw going but without any specific match details (our reporters car broke down on the motorway en route), we can't really comment on how the match went other than to say an early red card for Highgate did not help matters one bit. Highgate can hold their heads up for their progress in the competition and hopefully all our teams who entered this year will go in again next year now they have had a taste for the excitement the latter phases bring!

A successful morning in the Kidderminster Hospital Cup saw three games played (Minor and Junior Cup) and three BDFL victories. Chaddesley Corbett firsts had a fine 4-2 quarter-final victory over Waggon and Horses AET. Will Tibbetts 65th minute goal had looked likely to win it before 10 man Waggon equalised from a corner with 10 to go, Sam Watkins the scorer, to take the game into Extra-Time although Waggon missed an open goal right on the final whistle. In Extra-Time, Chadds made use of the man advantage and scored 3 in 10 minutes with Tibbetts completing his hat-trick and another one for the in-form Andy Innes. Sporting Club Redditch are into the last 8 as they beat Lakeside United 5-1 away from home. A fine performance this from SCR with the goals coming from Joe Shaw (2), Dan Sill (penalty), Malique Williams and Harry Bedford. Chaddesley Ravens are also chugging along nicely in the competition and they are into the next round after a 3-2 win over Withymoor; It was a 'Dan' day as the goals came from Dan Willetts, Dan Weston and amazingly Dan Kings with a rare one in the right net! Well done to all our teams and we await the draws for the next phases in full, although that is complicated by the fact several games are still outstanding from previous rounds.

Internally, Winyates confirmed themselves as Bridgwater Cup Group D winners with a 4-0 win over Cofton Old Boys. Cofton started the better and missed a penalty after 15 minutes. This seemed to wake Winyates up from their slumber and they went into a 2-0 lead through an Andrew Squibb brace, a header and a long range strike. A further two goals in the second half from Devante Thompson and Mr Reliable, David Phelan, put the game to bed and secured a home quarter-final tie against Redditch United Sunday in the quarter-finals.

And to finish off, a Division 3 game between Kings Norton Sporting and Arrow Valley went the way of the league leaders who came away 3-2 victors thanks to goals from Rob Voice, Paul Halfpenny and the French import Matthew Remes. A good quality game this, both sides having mutual respect for the other and this match tees 'Rollo' up for his Rose Bowl semi-final clash next Sunday with Chaddesley Pensioners where he will be looking to continue his hoodoo on Richard Ash based on games played earlier in the season - Ash is a master tactician in knockout football though and it will be interesting to see what he comes up with!

With fixtures now issued for next week, we have 7 cup games planned as we attempt to tackle the backlog created from the past 6-8 weeks. The best place to choose which fixture you want to watch is to head to our Full-Time website where all the fixtures are now listed, there are far too many to talk about in what will be a 'Super Sunday' if they all get played - And on that note, it's back to the weather forecasting models as we desperately seek a clear passage into next week!
