Our local football resident expert,
"Stoat", a fanatical follower of local
football who regularly watches games in all
Worcestershire County leagues, has been out and
about the local parks and pitches of the clubs in
the Bromsgrove League. Here is what he has to
say..........
I believe the Bromsgrove League
will be a good competitive league this year across
all divisions.
Starting with Division 1, the tip
for the title is Bromsgrove Town.
The club is too well run not to achieve major
success and this could be the year with major
flaws in many of their title rivals. Navigation La
Coruna have lost several decent players, which
could be enough to stunt their progress, whilst
Victoria Barnt Green need a major injection of
fresh young blood, which has yet to be seen, if
they wish to move from being proverbial
bridesmaids. The Stoat predicts these teams will
finish in the Top 3.
The "joker in the pack" could be
Waseley United, with their infamous access to the
local powerhouse of football, Cadbury
Athletic. They will progress this season into
fourth place.
The rest of the division will be
competitive. Rubery are learning all the time, but
probably lack the experience to make a concerted
challenge and whilst Queens Head Dons have much
experience, their management team must surely have
a priority to reduce the numbers of yellow and red
cards received above all else. It is anticipated
that the remaining teams do not have the necessary
tools of consistency, but all remain capable on
their day.
In Division 2, this division is
intriguing. Having witnessed Ladybird's latest
training session and the players they have signed,
the league should really promote them into
Division 1. They will be far too strong for
Division 2. The fellow teams in Division 2 are
playing for outside honours. FC Hewell are a
refreshing addition to the league and could roll
nicely into second place. The league's decision to
allow them into the league, playing all games at
HMP Hewell, will be a massive advantage and whilst
they will have a slow start, the momentum as the
season goes on will knock everything out of the
way, Ladybird excepted who will be 30 points clear
by Easter.
Bromsgrove General Old Boys may not
have the legs to cope, they will do well to finish
mid table, whilst impressive Division 3 sides
Westbury Celtic and Arrow Valley may need another
season of consolidation at this level. They will
have the heart, but not the necessary quality.
The "joker in the pack" could be
Rubery Social. The results achieved by this team
last season were as consistent as a Labour party
political statement, but with new players evident,
it is possible they could sneak up into the Top 2.
It will be all about what team they get onto the
pitch and whether they start arguing amongst
themselves when things go wrong, with so many
"know it alls" in their squad
Division 3 is a strange division,
in that it is impossible to determine a winner.
Having spoken to members of West Heath, it is them
who are tipped to win the division on their first
foray into the League. Their "unknown" quantity
could surprise many teams. Churchfields United
have done well to see this season in, having lost
every game last season and whilst there new
players have made them more competitive, it will
be a miracle if they dont once again finish in the
last 3 places.
The divisional "joker in the pack"
could be Austin Sports and Social Reserves. Forced
to recruit again having lost many players, it
could be another season of consolidation but then
again, this is the one team that i have struggled
to research, so may well may a total mockery of
the prediction.
A high scoring division will also
ensue, the defences in the division are poor,
expect many high scoring games.
